List of recipients of Bharat Ratna

The Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award in India, instituted in 1954. It is awarded in recognition of exceptional service or performance of the highest order in any field of human endeavor — such as arts, literature, science, public service, and sports.

Awardees receive a certificate (Sanad) signed by the President of India and a medallion shaped like a peepal leaf.
